Born, Texas, June 14, 1923, Flag Day and the U.S. Army's birthday.
Bachelor of Arts (date 1953, degree in political science) University of Maryland.
Served in the United States Army from 1938 to 1960.
He was first assigned to the 5th (horse) Cavalry at Fort Clark, Texas.
Reassigned to the 2nd Division during World War II as a platoon sergeant.
Landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day. Was wounded twice, once seriously at the Battle of The Bulge.
Was awarded two Purple Hearts, two Silver Stars, and the Bronze Star with V for Valor.
In Korea, he served
as a 2nd Lieutenant, later as a 1st Lieutenant, with the 2nd Division where he was wounded in the battle of Bloody
Ridge.
He was awarded a Purple Heart.
In Laos, he served as a Captain with the 77th Special Forces Group.
He retired from the United States Army Special Forces in 1960.
Joined the Central Intelligence Agency where he worked as a
case officer for the Directorate of Operations from 1960 to 1973.
He served as case officer for the command ship Blagar in the 1960 invasion of The Bay of Pigs.
He was awarded the Intelligence Star, for service above and beyond the call of duty during the Bay of Pigs invasion.
He served as case officer for CIA paramilitary operations from 1960 -1973.
He retired in 1973.
Author of Decision for Disaster; Betrayal at the Bay of Pigs (1998).
Movie rights optioned to Ron Howard and Universal Studios.
Featured guest on more than eight major TV documentaries on the Bay of Pigs invasion and related topics, including CBS's The CIA's Secret Army, and those produced by the BBC, Japanese Public Television,
TV Marti, Oregon Public Television, to name a few.
Author of sequel to Decision for Disaster which is in the works.
