Getting Back My Writer’s Grove
For weeks now, I have been laboring over how and what to write in my blogs. Since I have three blogs, intelligence, writing and my horse blog, it was a lot to consider.
But yesterday, it all came together thanks in part to Al Qaida. Yes, you read right, Al-Qaida.
Actually, it was Al-Qaida’s number two man, Ayman al Zawahiri, whose call for all western infidels to convert to Islam that did it. Though, I know he was serious when he made the pronouncement, I couldn’t help taking a humorous tacked with my version of the breaking news story.
As a writer, I love writing action thrillers best. But, deep, down inside, I long to be Dave Barry, humor writer extraordinaire. I never missed a chance to read his column and have always envied his laid back, delightful approach to life and its foibles. He has my dream job.
So, though I am not Barry’s equal, I hope you will read my Intelligence blog dated September 3, and see if there is hope for me in the humor writing field. Though I had considered a more serious subject for that blog, al Zawahiri’s invitation was just too good an opportunity for levity to pass up.
If you have never written anything humorous before, I suggest you try it. Just think of the funniest experience you have ever had in you life and write about it. It will give you a whole new outlook on the art of writing and lift your spirits unbelievably.
Though I was told by my University of Tampa writing professor, Dr. Richard Mathews (a great guy), that writing humor is the hardest form of writing to achieve successfully, I feel that it is therapeutic writing at its best.
